Help Fill Our New Library

HEART has been on a wonderful journey towards the completion of a library, and the efforts of many amazing volunteers for this project were outlined in our April newsletter.  Click here to read.

The library is getting its doors, windows, and floors finished this week, and the furniture and shelves will be up soon after that.  HEART is now ready to collect books and technology to fill up the shelves in the library!

We need your help and there are several ways for you to be a part of this wonderful project.

We are looking for:

  • New or used laptops with working battery and charger
  • New Lenovo 4.8 or used tablets (Android tablets running 4.0 or higher, with working battery and charger or Kindle Fire)
  • Donations of simple books written in English, French, Haitian Creole, or Spanish to help children learn to love to read.  Specific guidelines for most helpful books for HEART’s library can be found by clicking here.  Donors may send gently used books or choose to purchase a book that falls within the guidelines and send to HEART, PO Box 554, Middletown, NY 10940
  • Books from our Amazon wishlist.  Donors can have their purchase shipped directly to HEART, PO Box 554, Middletown, NY 10940
  • HEART also has a list of book sets that will need to be purchased by them in a single order and your donation toward this list will be very helpful.  Donate using PayPal, Credit Card, or Debit Card for monetary support of books and tablets by clicking here.

If you are in the Middletown, NY, or New York city area and wish to coordinate a pick-up or drop-off of your book or tablet donation, please contact either or both HEART Team members: Pamela Schembri, at storiespjs@gmail.com, and Carina Blon, carinamblon@gmail.com.

We would like to receive as many books and tablets as possible by June 1st so that we may get them to HEART in Haiti School for the dedication and opening of the library in July 2018.

With the guidance of Pamela, Joanne and Andy and the help of many, such as Corlears School and the Dudes4Haiti, we have a good beginning. We hope you will join us in creating this space for learning and promoting the love of reading for our students.
