We have had countless volunteers and visitors to our school that have been incredibly generous with their time, talents and connections. We also have many volunteers in the United States and Canada that keep our organization running smoothly, and we are very grateful that we have a wide base of support.
Your visit to the school will be a richer experience if you visit while Executive Director Shad St. Louis is available.
(No dates currently scheduled. Please check back soon.)
We encourage you to read the U.S. State Department travel advisory and our volunteer guide if you are considering volunteering with us! PLEASE NOTE: the volunteer guide contains two forms on pages 10 through 13. These must be filled out and mailed to HEART, PO BOX 554, Middletown, NY 10940 at least one week prior to your planned arrival on Haiti.
Choices for Staying in Haiti:
Guest House – The guest house where some of our in country staff live is located about 2 miles from the school in the the community where many of the HEART students live. The advantage of staying at the house is the unique chance to experience the local culture, food and way of life.
Hotels – Hotels are available, and the closest trusted ones are about 30 minutes away from the school. Visitors can visit the school and the community, and also have the comfort of a modern hotel and American cuisine. Transportation to and from the school can be arranged, keeping in mind expenses for gas and food during the day.
HEART is always open to new Board members who have expertise that will strengthen the Board. HEART is located in New York. Board meetings are held monthly by telephone conference and occasionally in retreat together. Members are located in different states.
HEART is seeking a volunteer to research and coordinate donations of air miles to aid in flights to Haiti for our executive director and visiting experts. This can be done remotely.
HEART would like a Volunteer Coordinator to record and maintain volunteer hours. This can be done remotely.
HEART is seeking a Speakers Bureau Coordinator to find speakers, set dates, find organizations with which to connect, and maintain all follow-up and records. At present it would be for the NY area.
HEART is seeking fundraising volunteers with online outreach experience as well as corporate connections.
HEART is looking for a Strategic Plan coordinator. This would be someone to check in with Board members and keep the plan on track. This can be done remotely.
HEART is seeking volunteers to sit on committees chaired by Board members. These can be done remotely by telephone conference.
